Joanne - under current regulations you can beach a PWC on the shore provided it is under 500 lbs - or if you had previously obtained a permit for this from DNR. Any vessel over 500 lbs without a special permit is not allowed to be beached. Beaching PWCs hasn't really been an issue until the last 10 years or so when most PWCs started getting much larger in size and started weighing over 500 lbs. Before then, property owners would keep their canoes, kayaks, and jet skis (all vessels under 500 lbs) beached on the shoreline. Until DNR finalizes and adopts this new regulation you'll need to keep your PWC tied up to your dock (not beached) and it would count as one of your two allowed power vessels assuming you have a normal Type A boat dock permit. Hope this helps.

I am trying to find out if there is a restriction on beaching PWC's on the shore. According to your article, there has not been anything concrete in writing yet. Is this correct? We never saw anything about having to have a permit, and now the DNR says that we had to apply for this permit three years ago, and can no longer obtain one.
     Thank you for your article.
