Sonya Lowery’s World Next Door TV recently featured a TV episode about Deep Creek Lake and the Wisp Ski Resort. The video crew and host stayed in a rental house located on the lake that is managed by Railey Mountain Lake Vacations.

The episode features all the fun, great wintertime family activities in the Deep Creek and Garrett County resort market - skiing and snowboarding at Wisp Ski Resort, snowmobiling, snow tubing at Bear Claw Tubing Park, the mountain roller coaster, dining in or out, and relaxing with your friends and family after a long day of playing outside. The video also shows Muddy Creek Falls, Maryland’s largest natural waterfall.

The rental house in the video is called Timber Lodge located at 773 Glendale Road. This house features an indoor pool and 9 bedrooms! Railey Realty was both the listing and selling broker for this house when it sold in 2003.

As Deep Creek’s leading real estate brokerage, we have the largest selection of Deep Creek Lake vacation and second homes for sale. Give us a call, stop in our office, or send us an e-mail to schedule a time to see any houses for sale and real estate in the Deep Creek Lake area.

The Whispering Woods Subdivision is the first of its kind in Maryland! Located in the beautiful western part of the state in Garrett County, Maryland and only a short drive from Deep Creek Lake, this private mountaintop community has lots for sale that are “Net Zero” capable.whispering_woods

To clarify this further, “Net Zero” construction sites require the ability to create the energy on site that will be used by the dwelling-that is designed and erected-with solar and wind energy.

The first home in this community is currently just completed and is the gateway to the community and available for tours. This home was constructed to maximize the true net zero envelope featuring 6000 sq. ft. of highly appointed hand crafted timber beam construction and natural stones from around the world. The home will be supported by a 10 kw Aerostar Wind Turbine specified and to be installed to provide its power source. There are presently 4 lots remaining of the 6 that were originally listed for sale. The lots are perced and ready to build.  This gated community has paved roads and utilities already installed to the sites. The views from these lots are incredible spanning several mountain ridges! Lot sizes available are from 3.58 acres to 8.29 acres. If your desire is to  build “green” and as energy efficient as possible-take a look at Whispering Woods!

Ski Harbor is a lakefront condo & townhouse community at Deep Creek Lake. One of the coolest features of this community is the land it sits on - a 1,200+ feet peninsula on the shores of Deep Creek Lake. You can always find a quiet spot to sit and read, picnic or just think. Lots of different amenities: indoor swimming pool, sauna, tennis court, beach volleyball, basketball court (I’ve even witnessed street hockey!), swing sets, benches, canoe & kayak racks and more. There are dock slips available, lake views from almost anywhere on the property, 2 no-wake zones (great for kayaking & fishing), and acres of grassy, level lakefront common area. You have MEGA views of Wisp Ski Resort & the Bear Claw tubing park, as well as wide body views of McHenry cove from the point of the peninsula.

There are 2-4 bedroom condo’s & townhomes available for sale or for vacation rentals. Its location near Wisp & on the water offers a ‘rental friendly’ location that is sure to impress your visitors, family & friends. You can get a 2 bedroom condo in the low $200k’s!

Another great perk is a front row seat to fireworks. The Wisp always sets off the 4th of July fireworks from the Bear Claw tubing park, and I as I mentioned, the view is AMAZING! McHenry cove fills up with hundreds of boats, all lit up at night, and it’s quite a sight to behold.

If you are in the market for a great lakefront vacation home or centrally located condo, Ski Harbor is one place that you will definitely want to explore!

Villages of Wisp is a 135 unit townhome complex that sits atop Wisp Ski Resort and overlooks Deep Creek Lake. All townhomes at Villages of Wisp are ski-in/ski-out with slope access. This development was built in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Beside ski slope access, other amenities include a lakefront area on Deep Creek Lake in McHenry Cove that owners can use, a community boat dock with 10 permanent slips and 2 boat slips for day use only. This lakeside family park has a gazebo and sun deck and can be accessed off of Marsh Hill Road.

villages-of-wisp-winding-way1

There are 2 different floor plans at Villages of Wisp (VOW) - a smaller, 3 level, 2 bedroom unit commonly referred to as a 16 foot unit (because it’s 16 feet wide) - and a larger, 4 level, 2 bedroom loft unit commonly referred to as a 20 foot unit. Each building at Villages of Wisp (VOW) has 5 units - two (2) of the smaller units and three (3) of the larger 4 level loft units.  Clusters of these buildings can be found in various locations around the slopes of Wisp Ski Resort and can be accessed from the smaller private roads and courts known as Bright Passage, Winding Way, Slopeside Terrace, Lakeview Court, and Liftside Drive.

villages-of-wisp-bedroom

Villages of Wisp is a home owners association (HOA) - not a condominium association - and thus each unit is individually owned in fee simple.  All interior and exterior maintenance is the responsibility of the individual homeowner - not the HOA. The association dues go towards snowplowing, grass cutting, trash removal, the boat docks, and common area maintenance.

Exploring Deep Creek Lake - Trader’s Landing

Deep Creek Lake has a number of unique communities, but it is safe to say none offer the amenities of Roman Ridge at Trader’s Landing.  For years the area was known for the Pink building known as the old Trading Post.  Since then the nostalgic or (should I say nauseating) building has been replaced with a variety of shops, all offering services that compliment the Deep Creek and Garrett County experience.

Start the day at Trader’s Coffee House for the finest brews and pastries, (with wireless internet access your laptop is optional), lunch at the very convenient Subway (try the fresh cookies), and make it a point to do lunch or dinner at Brenda’s Pizzeria for the finest New York Style Pizza on the lake.

Roman Ridge at Trader's LandingBetween meals, check out High Mountain Sports. Steve or Bryan will hook you up with the very latest clothing, equipment, and the best deals, for all of your adventure sports needs.  You can buy or rent pretty much anything you need to enjoy the lakes, slopes, rivers or mountains of Garrett County. Mountain bike, kayaks, wakeboards, and water ski sales and rentals - you name it they have it. Other helpful businesses are Mountainside Technologies (computers) and Grand Central (furniture).

Roman Ridge at Deep Creek LakeOften overlooked are the very affordable condominiums in the community. Some call the units Roman Ridge some call them Trader’s Landing.   You will find town homes ranging from single family to quad units, prices ranging from $199,000 - $499,000 (depending on size and age).  This will buy you a very comfortable, lake view home within a short walking distance to the above shops.  You will also have the opportunity to rent a dock slip just across the street, and with the Wisp Resort ski area in sight, you will be able to enjoy most of the amenities of Deep Creek Lake from your front door step (It’s like owning a lakefront home without paying lakefront prices!)

Come by land, or come by boat, but whatever you do, come check out Roman Ridge at Trader’s Landing!

Thousand Acres at Deep Creek Lake Real Estate and Golf Course Update

Mike Kennedy By: Mike Kennedy

Category: Community Profiles, Deep Creek Lake Real Estate

Recently, Bill Franklin, developer of the Thousand Acres at Deep Creek Lake community, sent us an update on the progress of the newest planned golf course in Garrett County and real estate subdivision.

  • The front nine holes will be completed in fall 2008 and are scheduled to open in the spring of 2009. The back nine holes are scheduled to open later in 2009.
  • Holes 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9 have been sodded around the greens, bunkers, and tees.
  • Bill also reports they have been very careful not to impact any of the wetland areas - there are 8 small bridges that cross streams and wetlands. The only disturbance of those wetlands is those bridge posts.
  • Fairway and rough seeding is ongoing along with clearing and grubbing, moving dirt, installing golf course drainage and irrigation, building roads and storm water structures, building the irrigation pond, and all the other stuff that goes into building a golf course

We are hopeful in the very near future that Railey Realty will have 5 new building lots and home sites for sale in the Thousand Acres at Deep Creek Lake subdivision. For more information on this premier second home and four season mountain retreat community please visit www.thousandacresgolf.com.

Deep Creek Lake Community Profile - The Blakeslee

Mike Kennedy By: Mike Kennedy
mkennedy@railey.com

Category: Community Profiles

The Blakeslee has been considered one of the premier neighborhoods at Deep Creek Lake for a long time now. Orginally developed in the late 80’s and early 90’s this neighborhood consists of 38 lakefront homes and 61 lake access homes/building lots. Of the 99 lots that were originally sold, all but 10 have houses on them now. The Blakeslee was named after the family who originally owned the large tract of land that now makes up the neighborhood.

Consisting of many high-end homes on wooded lots, this community is one of the few around Deep Creek Lake that has an indoor pool and community center. Other amenities include two tennis courts, a full size basketball court, kid’s playground, soccer field, and numerous trails which can be used for hiking, mountain biking, ATV’s, or snowmobiles. All the roads in the Blakeslee are private roads (Middleton Road, Thornberry Road, Sorbus Lane, North Blakeslee Road, and South Blakeslee Road) making it very nice to take a walk or ride a bike around the neighborhood.

The mix in the neighborhood consists of many vacation and second homeowners who only use their house on the weekends and during the summer - but their is a large percentage of owners who are full time residents of Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County as well.

If you are interested in purchasing real estate or a house for sale in this Deep Creek Lake neighborhood please click here for a current inventory of available homes and lots for sale.
